On the evening of July 7, Jiexi County Emergency Management Bureau reported:

At noon on July 4, 2023, during the shutdown of Juxiangyuan Food Factory in Jiexi County, a hydrogen sulfide gas leak occurred, causing accidental poisoning and suffocation. After the accident occurred, the province, city, and county attached great importance and quickly established an accident investigation team to carry out the investigation.

After preliminary investigation, hydrogen sulfide gas leaked from the damaged connection pipe between an old spray tower and the hydrolysis acidification tank, and spread to the warehouse through the door next to the tank, causing an accidental poisoning and suffocation of one person in the warehouse. During the rescue process, due to a lack of rescue knowledge, five more rescue workers were poisoned. The final accident resulted in four people suffocating due to hydrogen sulfide gas poisoning, and two rescue workers were sent to the hospital for observation. Currently, the observation personnel have been discharged. The related aftermath and subsequent disposal work are still ongoing.
