[ Hongjie Water ] What is the reason for the reduced water output rate of pure water equipment ?
Pure water equipment is the water treatment equipment we commonly use. People who are familiar with it know that after using the pure water equipment for a period of time, the water output rate will decrease. What should we do in this situation? Let’s talk about this topic below.
Generally speaking, the phenomenon of low water output rate and high pressure in pure water equipment is mainly caused by instrument reading errors, temperature, inlet water conductivity, water mixing side pressure, pressure difference, membrane element flux attenuation, membrane element pollution, and untimely maintenance.
If the pressure gauge and flow meter of the pure water equipment are not calibrated before use, their readings will be inaccurate. The installation position of the pressure gauge is far away from both ends of the pressure vessel, and its reading contains the pressure loss of the pipeline, but when it is used as the water inlet pressure, it will cause the water inlet pressure to be low, resulting in low water production.
Pure water equipment is very pure and almost free of impurities, so it is easy for pure water equipment to absorb pollutants from the external environment and cause pollution. If the water storage tank we use is low-grade plastic, it is easier to dissolve some organic matter, thereby increasing the conductivity of the water and causing the water quality to deteriorate.
Most water storage tanks of pure water equipment have an exhaust port to ensure air pressure balance. At this time, it is easy for outside air to enter through the exhaust port and bring in bacteria, particulate matter, etc., which will pollute the pure water stored in the water tank. Therefore, it is recommended to configure a filter at the vent.
When the inlet water temperature is lower than the initial design, the water output of the reverse osmosis equipment will decrease by about 10% for every 3°C decrease in the inlet water temperature. When the inlet water conductivity is much higher than the design value, for every 1000ppm increase in the sodium chloride solution, the osmotic pressure will increase by about 11.4psi. Under the same inlet water pressure, the water output of the reverse osmosis equipment will decrease. Under the same inlet water pressure, due to the pressure holding setting on the water production side or the small water production pipeline and the high and distant delivery point, the resistance is large, resulting in a decrease in net pressure and a decrease in water production.
In a closed environment, bacteria are also afraid of breeding, because extremely fine microorganisms can form biofilms and pollute the water. Therefore, the disinfection of pure water is also very important.
Under normal circumstances, for a six-core 8040 membrane element, the pressure difference between the two ends is about 3~4bar. If the pipeline design is unreasonable, it will cause a large pressure loss or the second-stage concentrated water discharge valve cannot be completely closed, which will lead to a decrease in the net pressure of the reverse osmosis equipment and a decrease in water production.
If the wet membrane element is not properly stored, or if no protective measures are taken after the wet membrane element is installed in the system, the membrane element will dry out, resulting in a significant attenuation of flux or no flux, which will lead to a decrease in the water output of the reverse osmosis equipment system. The operation of the reverse osmosis membrane element requires good water supply. Before the water enters the reverse osmosis membrane element, it must be treated by quartz sand, activated carbon, softener and other front-end treatments. If the water quality is too poor, it will easily cause scaling or contamination or even damage to the membrane element. The main reason for the low water output and high pressure of the pure water equipment is membrane scaling.
Some pure water equipment is equipped with a flat-bottom water tank. During maintenance, the water at the bottom of the tank cannot be drained, and the unclean water will become a place for bacteria to grow. Therefore, we recommend the use of a conical water tank, which can drain the water during maintenance and not provide a place for bacteria to grow and reproduce.
During the use of pure water equipment, it is important to pay attention to regular maintenance, otherwise the quartz sand, activated carbon, and softener front-end filter will not be properly maintained, and the safety filter element will not be replaced in time, or will not be replaced at all, which will cause the filtration performance to decline. These problems will lead to a decrease in water output.
